THE TRAINING PROGRAM
Training at the Longhorns Swim Camp focuses upon intensive long-course conditioning and thorough stroke instruction and analysis. Camp is divided into four challenging ability groupings based on age and 100-yard freestyle time. One-hour daily sessions focusing on swim-specific dryland and strength training exercises. Long course training varies from one to two hours daily depending on ability level. Two 90-minute daily sessions focus specifically on technique work. Stroke drills, as well as start and turn mechanics are included along with classroom sessions and underwater video analysis of each swimmer. In addition, elite training sessions are available to those campers who the head coaches feel would benefit from while at camp. For more information on Elite Training sessions, please see the FAQs on this Web site, or contact Jon Alter, camp director. A typical daily schedule may be downloaded from the Registration page and is included in the pre-registration packet.

GUEST COACHES & SPEAKERS
The 2008 Longhorns Swim Camp is proud to feature six Olympic gold medalists as part of its camp staff. We welcome back 2004 Olympic gold medalists Ian Crocker, Brendan Hansen, and Neil Walker, and Aaron Peirsol as guest coaches. 2004 Olympic champion Kirsty Coventry also returns as a featured guest speaker! Josh Davis, three-time Olympic gold medalist, returns for his 12th year with the Camp, and will be coaching the Friday morning training session.

FACILITIES
All pool sessions are held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on The University of Texas at Austin campus. Ranked by Sports Illustrated (October, 2002) as the second fastest pool in the United States, it is one of the premier competitive aquatic facilities in the world. Since its completion in 1977, there have been numerous American and World records set in its waters, and is home to 18 NCAA national team champions. The competition pool is nine feet deep, 50 meters by 25 yards, and can create either eight 50-meter lanes or 22 25-yard lanes. Movable, power-operated bulkheads can create one of the fastest pools in the world. The diving pool is 18 feet deep, 25 yards by 25 meters, and can create 10 lanes.

EQUIPMENT

Campers should bring all personal swimming gear — suits, goggles, caps, plenty of towels, and a combination lock. Training equipment (kickboard, fins, etc.) should be left at home. Casual clothes (T-shirts, shorts, etc.) and athletic tennis shoes are required for dryland exercises. Campers also need an alarm clock, bed linens (twin sheets - long), blanket or sleeping bag, personal toiletries, water bottle, plenty of comfortable shorts, t-shirts, socks, towels, sturdy athletic shoes, and a pillow. For those who wear caps, writing the camper’s first name on the cap in block letters helps the coaches get to know the campers faster. Lockers are available for rent at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center for a $37 per session fee. Locker rental information is included in the pre-registration packet and may also be purchased during on-line registration.

ROOM AND BOARD
Campers are housed two per room in Dobie Center, a privately owned high-rise dormitory within walking distance of the Jamail Texas Swimming Center and adjacent to the UT campus at 21st and Guadalupe. Each room has a private bath and refrigerator. Campers may bring snacks and drinks to keep in their rooms. Dobie also features an outdoor pool, sports courts, and game room for on-site recreation. The dining hall is adjacent to the main building and offers a variety of foods on an all-you-can-eat basis for a well-rounded, balanced diet.

ROOMMATES and SUITEMATES
Every reasonable effort is made to assign compatible roommates. Advance requests for specific roommates are welcomed, but cannot be guaranteed. Roommate requests must match. Do not list more than one person for a roommate nor more than two people for suitemates. All roommates are assigned according to age no more than two years difference. It is recommended that roommates/suitemates send their registrations together or register on-line at the same time to try and be in the same session.

CHECKING IN & OUT
Check-in occurs on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. each session. Campers traveling by air should plan to arrive before 4 p.m. The final camp activity concludes by Noon on Fridays. All campers check out by 2 p.m. on Friday. Air departures should be made between 2-6 p.m. Campers will be supervised until their departure.

*Exceptions to Check-in and Check-out times:
