EDDIE REESE
MEN’S HEAD SWIMMING COACH
2008 HEAD MEN'S OLYMPIC SWIMMING COACH

Reese is in his 31st  year as head men's swimming coach.  The three-time U.S. Olympic men’s head coach has established a championship tradition and set the standard of excellence in the collegiate swimming world.  Eddie has led Texas to nine NCAA team titles in his 30 seasons in Austin.

Reese's Longhorns are the defending Big 12 Conference Champions, and look to move up from a second place finish at the 2008 NCAA Championships.  After placing 21st at the NCAA Championships in his first season (1979) at Texas, Reese's teams have never finished lower than seventh at the national meet.  His Texas team will enter the 2008-09 season with two incredible streaks to its credit: 29 consecutive top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championship and 29 consecutive conference titles. Along the way, Reese has developed 41 NCAA individual champions, 29 national champion relays, 192 All-Americans and 26 Olympians who have won 29 gold medals.

His selection by USA Swimming as the head men’s Olympic swimming coach for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, represents his third stint as the head men’s Olympic coach for Team USA, also serving in 1992 and 2004.  Reese's string of U.S. Olympic coaching also includes three other Olympiads: 1988, 1996, and 2000.  Seven of Reese’s current and former swimmers joined him in Beijing and accounted for about one-third of the 22-member USA team while capturing eight gold medals, one silver medal, and setting four world records. As a result of their performances at either the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials or the Beijing Olympics, USA Swimming named eight current and former Longhorns to the 2008-09 National Team.

Eddie Reese started the first Longhorns Swim Camp in 1978 and has always been one of the head coaches. He possesses a thorough knowledge of swimming fundamentals, an eye for talent, a genuine caring for his athletes and the ability to communicate and motivate.  His passion for swimming and knowing the ingredients that are necessary to make champion swimmers, are reasons the Longhorns Swim Camp has thrived for the past 31 years.

*NOTE for 2009 sessions*
Eddie's camp schedule is modified from previous camp years. Eddie will work with campers at the Sunday evening sessions, start one-two of the morning training sessions, and lead a Q&A session on Friday mornings. This schedule is similar to his 2008 camp schedule, and will allow him to fully prepare his athletes for the 2009 World Championships Trials. Please contact Jon Alter, the camp director, if you have any questions.
